Situated in the Heartland of America, Van Wert is known for its agriculture, industry, and traditional values.

Van Wert is located at the intersection of US Rt 127 & Lincoln Highway. Both highways host annual yard sales that bring many visitors to Van Wert each August.

Van Wert is home to the first county library in the United States, the Brumback Library.

Van Wert was once known as the Peony Capital of the world.

Van Wert was once the Liederkranz Cheese Capital of the world.

Van Wert is the smallest city in the United States with both a YMCA and a YWCA.

Van Wert is the hometown of Larry Smith, VWHS Class of 1957, reknowned college football coach.

Van Wert is the birthplace of Walter T. Hinton, one of the two pilots, along with Elmer F. Stone, of the Curtiss NC flying boat "NC-4", the first aircraft to make a transatlantic flight, in May 1919.

Van Wert County is home to 115 wind turbines owned by the Blue Creek Wind Farm. These turbines are part of a larger 152-turbine project that spans across both Van Wert and Paulding counties.
