Charitable Giving Options

Charitable giving can be done through a number of vehicles, some during the donor's lifetime where the individual may take advantage of income tax reductions and at the same time, gain satisfaction from watching the income from a grant being used for the intended purpose, or after the death of the donor, having the donor's estate, or a portion of it, managed to continue to support specific or general activities. Administration of Bequests

The principal fund of any gift is held in trust by The Foundation, with its object being to insure sound and economic financial management.

Each fund in excess of $5,000 left the The Foundation is set up as a separate Memorial Fund, with the name as is requested by the donor. The principal is invested by the Investment Committee, with only the income from a fund used for giving. When the income from a fund is given, the recipient is told that this grant is being given from the "John Doe Memorial Fund" which is administered by The Van Wert County Foundation. This is very important as The Foundation has no money itself except those funds given to it, therefore credit should always be given the donor. Thus, the name of the donor is kept in perpetuity.

All memorial funds given The Foundation without restrictions are administered by the Foundation for the benefit of local charities, as the Trustees of The Foundation deem most worthy.

The Van Wert County Foundation serves as a constant living connection between the generous purpose of the giver and the future need in which they can best serve the welfare of the public. It is the hope of the Trustees of The Foundation that our record since 1925 will inspire new donors to leave a Memorial Fund in their name or the names of their families, creating a living memorial to the donor for the betterment of the community.
